The Unit for Research and Development at JCE was established in 2010 in order to promote and encourage research activity, to create a solid foundation for the academic faculty that will draw leading and innovative new faculty members, to expand the research interests and fields of the college faculty and to promote the launch of graduate studies in various departments.
Cultivation of excellence in research is JCE’s Unit for Research and Development’s main goal, evident through its devotion to the individual scholars and research teams, diverse areas of research and collaborative cross-institutional research.
Prof. Tamar Raz, Associate Professor at JCE and Chair of JCE’s Committee for Academic Affairs heads the unit along with Administrative Director Hanna Shaul Bar Nissim, who is also a doctoral student at the department of Sociology and Anthropology at Bar Ilan University.
The Unit is prepared to facilitate all research affiliated with JCE’s faculty, to assist faculty members in financing their research and fostering connections, and to support cooperation with academic institutions in Israel and around the world. By providing this support, the College hopes to encourage their faculty to pursue research.
The Unit’s channels of operation include mapping out new sources of research funding, assisting and supporting researchers in project and proposal development, being a liaison to other academic institutions in order to promote collaboration in research, preparing and submitting financial reports; and monitoring the submission of scientific reports.
Starting December 2010, the Unit will facilitate a unique process for selected faculty members that will enable them to convert up to 4 weekly teaching hours to research time. The process pends the authorization of an internal research committee that will lean on external peer-reviews, and the authorization of the Planning and Budgeting Committee at the Council for Higher Education in Israel. The first conversions will commence in the upcoming spring semester.
