Multi-Cultural Women's Empowerment and Leadership Program in Engineering & Science
Goals of the Program
- To promote equal opportunity between the sexes in society through developing career mobility among women from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds within Israeli society in engineering and the sciences
- To develop a commitment to social responsibility and effecting social change pertaining to gender
- To enable acquisition of knowledge and career tools toward advancement of women to the organizational status of industry leaders
- To expose female high school students to the options of higher education, to encourage them to advance in science and pursue careers in engineering, thus breaking through into a field which has historically been populated by men.
Background
This program was derived from The Azrieli College of Engineering Jerusalem’s policy, which encourages women to study and pursue careers in the fields of engineering and to acquire the tools and knowledge which will assist them in integrating into leading positions in the hi-tech industry in Jerusalem and in Israel. While our current percentage of female students is 29%, our goal is to reach a percentage of 51% female students. The program instills an awareness of the status of women in Israeli society and to the gender dialogue in Israel, as well as to those who have the ability to advance or hinder women with regard to senior positions and decision-making groups within organizations.
